POOL ASHRAM / MUKTINATH ( Muktinath
kshetra )
Introduction:
Muktinath lies
in Mustang district in Nepal, located at an altitude of 2700-3800 from the
sea level. It is a pilgrimage place for both Hindus and Budhist. Muktinath
means God of salvation.
Legend:
The description
about the Muktinath kshetra can be found in Ramayan, Brahm pooran, Skand
pooran, Satsangi Jivan, etc. The region is the origin of Gandaki River where the
Salligram are found.
Access:
Fly from Pokhra
to Jomsom and then 7 hours walk (18 km) to Muktinath kshetra.
Preparation
for visit:
Entry permit is
required and can be obtained from Pokhra. Fees are like this:-Overseas 2000
while Indians 200 Nepalees Rupees. This place is high and cold, so visitors
are advised to take down jacket, sweaters, woolen shocks etc, as well as
some medicine for high altitude sickness.

The temple is built in Pagoda style. The temple depicts the statues of god
Vishnu, Laxmiji, Sarswati, Jankiji, Garud, Lavakush and sapt (7) Rushis,
made from brass. Behind the temple, lies 108 Gangas (cow head shaped water
spout) were devotee’s bath under freezing point believing that it brings
salvation.
Jwala maiya / Mebar Lha Khan
Gomba:
It lies in the South of Muktinath temple. Jawala maiya mean “god of fire
while Mebar Lha Khan Gomba means “the monastery of miraculous fire”. Here
burning flame is seen above the flowing water, which is believed that this
miracle of lighting fire upon water was an offering ( yagna ) made by
Brahmaji himself in Aadi (1st ) Satya yuga.
Patal Ganga
Lies east to
Muktinath temple. One can here a sound like flowing Ganga here. According to
a story, Mandakini (river) has come from heaven and flowing inner side of
the earth that produces sound.
